Street Dance Evaluation UNIT 38/7&40

Rehearsal Process:

I was always punctual to all my lessons that I could attend to for Street dance, when I was absent it was only due to my physiotherapy sessions. During my absences I always took it into account and made sure to ask my classmate (Marta) for videos of the choreography that they've done so she'd send it to me so I could practice the dance routines at home and my absolutely ready for the next lesson that I'd be attending to; this enabled me to never really fall behind in class work/dance routines. Although I injured my knee earlier on in the year (October) I continuously worked hard and gave it my all with my exercises and warm ups to allow me to be fit and be prepared for my end of year performance.

I believe I had great focus upon the teaching Inez gave to me, as I am a lover of Urban dance, I've done dance lessons from the age of four and had training from Brit School. So therefore focus is something that comes naturally to me. On this unit I had the ability to concentrate on the movements I done as I had to keep being aware of my injury. Most of the movements in break dancing requires a large sense of concentration especially while doing the 'poses' such as the windmill spin, shoulder freeze and the helicopter as you need to maintain a strong, straight torso.

I had to put some self discipline  and commitment towards the unit on the dance style Capoeira as it was a dance style that I've never come across before. Doing some research on the history behind it, helped me massively as it allowed me to get a full picture and wider understanding on why/how it was originated and also on the idea behind it. I found out that this Brazilian art was originated in Angola where I am originally from but I had no clue about the style of dancing, so from this point on I learnt how to clearly adapt to something new and different.

I do strongly fee I work very well with other people in my class, I let other people give criticism and ideas on my work. In my opinion I think it is essential to get that from others as people view things differently then you. In the RDMC battle dance routine I used Rafa to continuously video me each week so I could see the improvements that I am making or being aware on what isn't working in my in and out two counts of eight.

The rehearsal preparation was quite intense as others were only attending the second lesson which wasn't acceptable as we have double lessons with Inez. A pupil turning up late slightly lets the team down as we'd need to start all over again for them. I was in a Capoeira duet with Daria and then Cagla was thrown in last minuet within' our group which became a trio. This was a challenge that I needed to take as I needed to remove some dance moves we created which couldn't be performed as a trio and also on top of that It was in my duty to teach her our sequence.

The Choreography:

Our choreography was a mixture of Urban dance styles which was, break dancing, street dance, Capoeira and freestyle.

FINAL AUDITION Unit 18: Audition for Actors

Final Audition

SONGS:

The Colour Purple - I'm here (by Brenda Russell)

Jesus Christ Superstar - I don't know how to love him  (by Andrew Lloyd Webber)

Dream Girls - Listen   (by Henry Krieger)

MONOLOGUES:

Richard Fisher's Funeral  (by Kellie Powell)

Goodbye World (Paula Vogel)

I have chosen my song 'Listen' from the musical Dream Girls as the song expresses the willingness of wanting to achieve a goal, the urge of escaping and being prepared to face the world and having their voice being heard. Which I believe will be suitable for the audition which I could compare to the musical 'Rock of Ages' as the musical itself has a ambitious young lady called Sherrie Christian who has Drew falling in love with and  hoping to become big in the acting industry. In which I can use the contrast of character Deena as she gets helped by Curtis a record executive to make her a house hold name and eventually falls madly in love with her.

The song itself invites you through a emotional journey with her, 'Listen' being the first word in the song does show you sympathy and remorse towards the character, that is why I like the song personally. The hooks and the bridges helps to elevate the mood and spirit of the song, making you as the audience feeling as if there is a way at the other side; you could chase your dreams and make it only if you preserver

Unit:42 Bones ASSIGNMENT 1

 The Bone Structures...

Did you know there is 206 bones in our skeletal system?

26 bones in the human foot?

The human hand, including wrist, contains 54 bones...

The femur/thighbone, is the longest and the most strongest bone of the human skeleton.

There is is 6 different parts in our bones;

1. Compact Bone
2. Cartilage
3. Spongy Bone
4. Marrow
5. Blood Vessels
6. Periosteum

  • The most fragile bone in the humans body is the Toe Bone, as it breaks easily.

  • The most commonly broken bone is the ankle, this injury happens to most of the dancers, both ankle fractures and sprained and broken ankles are often accompanied by then tendon damage.

  • The most common form of bone surgery is the 'Arthroscopic Surgery' which I'll be having in August as I've got a Meniscus Knee Tear. Arthroscopic procedures on the knee increased 49% between 1996 and 2006.

There is 3 types of bones.

1. Long Bone
2. Short Bone
3. Flat Bone

The spine is a very important aspect to the human's body as it helps to hold and spread the stress caused through weight bearing. It is also massively important as the spine allows the body to be held together as our spine is made out of 33 vertebrates.

KEY MUSCLES:

SKELETAL

VISCERAL

CARDIAC

  • The number of muscles in our body varies around 640-850

Movements of Muscles in the Body

Right now, as you read these words, your body is using muscles. Those muscles are helping your eyes scan across the page, they're helping to hold you upright, and, when you get hungry, they'll help you walk to the refrigerator to get something to eat. These muscles are called skeletal muscles, and they are the major muscles used by the human body for the purpose of locomotion.
Before we begin our investigation, let's first acknowledge that there are hundreds of muscles contained in the human body. Our investigation focuses on the 13 major (or big) muscle groups used for movement.

Upper Body Muscle Groups

The first of these groups is collectively known as the abdominal muscles. Abdominal muscles, or abs, are found overtop your stomach. You'll notice that these muscles form the midsection of the body's front side. Their primary purpose is for sitting up and supporting your posture.
To either side of your abdominal muscles are your obliques. The oblique muscles are used for twisting and turning your torso. Behind them are your erector spinae, or lower back muscles. These muscles assist with posture and lifting items. Together, the erector spinae, obliques, and abdominal muscles form your body's core or midsection.
Above your abdominal muscles, you'll find the muscles of your chest. These are known as pectoral muscles. Pectoral muscles are used for movements such as pushups, pushing open a door, or other similar motions. On either side of your pectoral muscles reside the deltoids, or shoulder muscles. These muscles are responsible for overhead lifting and rotating your arms. The deltoids form a sort of cap over your shoulder and encompass the front, side, and back of the shoulder. In back, the deltoids yield to the trapezius. The trapezius muscles are the large muscles in the upper- and mid-back. They help you move your head and aid the upper back when lifting heavy objects.
Directly below the trapezius muscles are your latissimus dorsi, or lats. These muscles form the side of your back and are responsible for posture and pulling motions, such as opening a door or rowing a boat. Collectively your deltoids, trapezius, lats, and erector spinae represent the major muscle groups of your back, just as the abdominal, deltoid, and pectoral muscles represent the major muscle groups of your front.

Joint STRUCTURES:
  • In our body we have 6 types of joints.
  • The joints allow our bones to move in different ways.
which includes...

FLEXION = BENDING
EXTENSION = STRAIGHTENING
ABDUCTION = MOTION AWAY FROM THE CENTRE LINE
ADDUCTION = MOTION TOWARDS THE CENTRE LINE
ROTATION = MOTION AROUND THE JOINTS AXIS LINE
CIRCUMDUCTION = THE COMBINATION OF INVOLVING CIRCULATION MOTION

THE FOUR MAIN JOINTS: FIBROUS JOINT
                                     BALL AND SOCKET JOINT
                                     PIVOT JOINTS
                                     HINGE JOINTS

A joint normally occurs at the firm point of articulation,in other words the point that two bones meet in the skeleton...

- The ball and socket joint is situated where the large, round head of the bone fits into the cup of another bone. This found in the way the femur fits into the bone, you can also identify this  in how the humerus fits into the scapula as that makes up the part of the shoulder bone. The ball and socket joints is important as it allows the greatest range of motion within' the humans body.

- The hinge joint permits the forward and backwards motion, these joints can been seen in the knee or in the fingers.

- Whereas the pivot joint creates a rotating motion which is the movement of the head from side to side.

  • The exercises that works the most muscles are the bench press, squat, deadlift workout. These exercises work the most muscle mass and always seems to challenge your body to the extreme.
  • Workouts to strengthen your bones is Yoga which is highly recommended,a study reported by the Yoga Journal, they've found an increase in bone mineral density in the spine mainly by women who do yoga regularly.
  • To keep your knees, hips, shoulders in healthy working order which is essential for a dancer is to daily exercise, strengthen and stabilize your joints which will prevent pain and injury in the future. One leg stance balance is good for the adults who had a sports injury in the past. This exercise will help keep your knee stable while walking and performing.
While performing... the nervous system is the Central nervous system which is responsible for issuing nerve impulses and also analyzing sensor data, which includes the brain and spinal cord. The Peripheral nervous system which is mainly responsible for carrying nerve impulses to and from the body. The Autonomic nervous system is composed of the Central and Peripheral system which is responsible for regulating and coordinating the functions of the vital organs in the body.

WEEK 3: Weekly Summaries: THIRTEEN

Weekly Summaries

This week our choreographer Marta started showing us cheerleaders/cast the dance routines she's choreographed for each numbers.

The video above is the dance routine to the most exciting song 'Opportunity. I enjoyed learning this piece the most as dancers which is ourselves were able to put our own ideas as well and demonstrated the different talents we have.

This might be a very easy song to perform to, however I've learnt that it is very important in the piece to keep the energy alive at all times as each movements goes with the beat, which sometimes falls into everything being quite repetitive and boring at times.

So the feedback we got from our teacher/director Ike which I personally took for myself also, is the keep the audience engaging, we should overly exaggerate being always happy and excited about everything.

Imagining how puppies act in the daily basis which really helped me as an character to adapt into they way they move, the way the feel inside. This was quite weir for me at the very start to study a puppy but now i understand why I needed to as it has helped me massively

WEEK 2: Weekly Summaries: THIRTEEN

Weekly Summaries: THIRTEEN

Today we started learning the finale song, 'A little more homework' which I've found got challenging as the songs rhythm goes in hemiola  and in music it means that is in the ratio of 3:2. That is the the reason why everyone in the cast is struggling as we ain't use to singing songs like this, although the lyrics are very easy but the beat isn't.

TOP PART: PATRICE, LUCY, CHARLOTTE & MOLLY
BOTTOM PART: EDDIE, KENDRA, ARCHIE, MALCOLM

In this musical being placed on the top part has been a slight change to my singing career let me just say, as I've always been place at the bottom. So this was definitely something to get use to, I've learnt to liking to take on challenges and trying out new this because you'd never know where you other strengths lays at.

So I could truly say that from singing this song, it has definitely opened me up more as a singer, as in being able to come out of my shell and not being stuck in my comfort zone all the time.

UNIT:101

Dear Diary,

Lately I have been finding it really difficult to sing the 'Little More Homework' song from the musical Thirteen as it requires a lot of repetition and no spacing to breathe in between words.

From the early stages off my life I didn't know how to control my breathing through singing long phrases so it always resulted to cutting downs words in songs, in which I remember being called a singing robot by my singing teacher when I was really young.

So right now I've started to notice that it is a major issue that I need to work on, as it causes me to panic so much while singing. I started thinking that the only way to get better with my breathing through singing to do specific exercise for that problem that I am facing.

I decided to follow on a breathing exercise regime to help me get better into nailing this only solo song section that I have in the musical Thirteen.

A way to get better is to notice how you normally breathe during the day, which includes talking or working out in the gym. Once you are able to figure it out you should come to terms on how to master your breathing, this can only happen I believe is to being determined and spending extra spare time practicing.

The very first thing for me was standing straight while singing which includes having a strong posture, which enables the sound to efficiently travel through your diagram out from your mouth.

I've learnt that a way to test that you are breathing correctly is to breathe deeply and hold it while looking in the mirror. Breathing and your shoulders elevating is a no no, it should be your torso expanding in a widely. So as weeks went by I started to test this technique by placing both of my hands underneath my chest, right above my stomach. Which I started experiencing a more pleasant time breathing through a song, as I felt more in control of everything.

WEEK 1: Weekly Summaries: THIRTEEN

Weekly Summaries: THIRTEEN

Today is the first week of rehearsals and I've found it quite good but frustrating at the same time as we've been learning the opening song Thirteen and I felt quite annoyed that the other cast members we're finding it hard knowing on what beat to sing the phrase 'Thirteen!' on as I understand it comes quite on a off beat. In my opinion my cast members should take out their own time to listen to these songs so the recording could be stuck permanently in their heads. If we carry on like this I do question where we will be at in a few weeks time, as their is other songs to be learnt.

Other than that, I've fell in love with the song immediately as I get a feeling that we can be yourself on stage but just exaggerate being a lo younger. Even during the opening of the curtain call the way each individual character poses in a way to express the personality of the character, which I believe will give a great understanding towards the audience watching.

Therefore as me also being in charge of #PROPS I have decided to include props during the pose at the very start of the scene, mainly for the cheerleaders; Molly: reading a fashion/makeup magazine, Charlotte: Combing/Plaiting her hair, Kendra: Holding a bottle of perfume/Spraying herself and Lucy: Holding a mirror/Lipstick, pretending to put it on.

PROPOSALS: THIRTEEN

Proposals

Musical: Thirteen

Ruth Martino - Role: Charlotte
                           Role: Props

My role for the end of year show ‘Thirteen’ is a female character Charlotte who is part of the cheerleading squad besides Molly and the leader Kendra. Charlotte sees through all of Lucy’s intentions and quickly tries to warn Kendra about Lucy, but Lucy lies and calls Charlotte the ‘Jealous’ one.

This role has the responsibilities of keeping the group very compact and united at all times when we make an appearance during the play. Being a cheerleader and followers of Kendra in a way definitely needs to be portrayed in the way I act in the play and in Kendra’s presence around me, demonstrating the urge of wanting to be like her, continuously agreeing with absolutely everything she tends to say.

The responsibilities of the role, is always attending rehearsals as a start, as it enables you as a person and character to always been on track. As the role of Charlotte doesn’t require that much dialog in the play, I do need to know the que’s for Kendra to enter stage for example, as we always seem to make an appearance on stage when she is on.

Within' the musical I also have a technical role of the 'Props'.
This role requires a very imaginative mind as you will need to identify from the script what props each scene or character needs inside the play.

You will also always need to be always punctual to rehearsals and on top of your game any moment, as you'll need to always need to be prepared to write down notes,.

Responsibilities:

  • During pre-production Props organisers liaise with production designers and art directors to break down the script, and to determine what props are required.

  • At this stage Property Masters may work with production buyers who carry out research into period props, styles of furniture, etc., by referring to archives, internet files, books and photographs, or by discussing the requirements with specialized advisors.

  • Property Masters subsequently draw up complete properties lists, and set up and label the properties tables, which are used during production. From the lists, Property Masters select which properties are to be bought in, or hired, and which are to be made. LINK

Term 3: 1st Half @PJ #Schedule

Term 3: 1st Half

From my last Practical Journal of 'term 2' it was very beneficial for me as the abdominal pulsing helped to massively improve they way I use to sing as I've always managed to run out of breathe quickly.I was practicing the vocal techniques of one-one two-one one-two-three-two one... which was one of the best techniques which I saw a change in my singing as it has helped to boost my breathing capacity.

I was able to witness a huge change in my singing in the last 'Individual Showcase' we had during the last week in the month of March. Which was a huge challenge for me as I had to prepare 3 songs and perform them one after each other on top of that having nerves building up inside of you and having the introduce each song beforehand.

Unfortunately I don't think the Wednesday 'Nasty Nays' worked for me as I struggled to understand what it was used for, from my understanding I chose this exercise to enable me to know how to control a softer sound and gradually getting louder as one of my songs from the 'Individual Showcase' 'Maybe I like it this way' (The Wild Party) I felt like it needed that sense of timbre within your voice mainly at the start of the song as I believed it will make the audience understand the emotion the character would be feeling.
However the only way that I managed to portray that in my song was by constantly practicing it while recording at the same time as I was able to listen back at it and repeatedly make it perfect as I believe in the quote - 'Practice makes Perfect'

My weekly schedule for the month of April is...

1. Always Use Less Breath

The most common misconception when preparing to sing a long, loud, powerful note is that you need to take a big breath. This is a misguided notion, but of course understandable. The relationship between breath and the vocal cords is this; the vocal cords allow and stop breath from passing through. When the vocal cords are closed they hold breath back and we slowly allow a small stream of air though them when we sing. The first principle of voice is contact between the two vocal cords, and when we belt we are aiming for thick vocal cord contact (more of the mass of the vocal cords touching). Considering all this, if we give the vocal cords more air to resist before we belt by taking a big breath, the vocal cords are more likely to blow apart causing the dreaded crack, or pushing tuning to the sharp side. The rule of thumb with breath when singing is this:

BREATH = MILEAGE
(
NOT POWER or VOLUME)

The only thing we use breath for in singing is for length of phrase, never for power or volume.

Here is a little exercise for you to try. Take a belted phrase in your song and isolate it. Blow some air out shortly and sharply as if blowing out a candle, then sing the phrase without breathing in first. Try it a few times and see if it feels a bit (or a lot) easier! You'll be surprised at how the sound can suddenly just pop out with ease. Watch this video for how to do it.

2. Use A Small Space

This is a good one, and it usually takes a bit of convincing when I first introduce students to it. We are going to experiment with using a smaller space in the mouth and jaw when singing high and loud. The common misconception is that you need a big, wide open mouth to make a loud and powerful sound.
Pop your finger on your larynx for a second. Now open your mouth wide. What do you feel? Most probably you will feel your larynx move down. If you keep your mouth in this position your jaw and tongue will keep your larynx locked down in that position and it will be considerably more difficult to get it to move up, which is generally where we want it to be for high belting. When we sing, we want a mobile larynx at all times. Opening the mouth too widely will simply keep your larynx locked in one position.
Think about the instruments of the orchestra... which are the higher, piercing and more powerful instruments? Are you thinking about piccolos and trumpets...? This is because they are smaller and the sound waves resonate at a higher speed than the bigger, wider instruments. Same with singing.
Here's something for you to try; put your little finger between your top and bottom teeth at the side of your mouth. Keep the top and bottom teeth resting on your little finger. The idea is not to let the finger go, but not to bite hard. Try singing your belted phrase on an 'aaay' sound using this smaller space. Give it a few tries to get used to the new sensation and watch this video for how to do it.

3. Sing On Pitch

This last tip is a nice simple one to implement, but must not be underestimated in how powerful it can be in refining your belt. Hitting your belted note or phrase bang on pitch is so important and will clean things up considerably. Bending up on to the note and falling off the note at the end is very common and is usually just down to habit. I want everything my students do in their singing to be their choice rather just habit. By bending up onto the note, and falling off the note at the end we are just creating a bit of extra and unnecessary work for the muscles to deal with. So to remedy this simply take a short, sharp breath in, which gets the larynx to a nice high position. The trick here is to breathe in on the pitch of the note you want to sing out. Essentially, your larynx is already in the position you want it to be in, creating less work and confusion. Give it a few tries and watch this video for how/not to do it.
NOTE: I told you earlier to breathe out before belting. This is just for practice to show how little breath you need to belt.

So there are my 3 tips for better belting. There is a lot more to belting technique than this, and I wouldn't advise you to practice belting continually on your own. Please contact a vocal coach you trust to assist you as there may be other things going on that you are not aware of. These tips are to give you a starting place to refine what you already can do. Please never try belting above your comfort zone without a coach. Practice in a safe area of your range. Please only practice belting exercises if you can achieve clean, clear tone. If you are breathy, constricted, or in pain then STOP!

Individual Showcase

Song title:             "Maybe I like it this way"
Musical:                Wild Party
Composer:           Andrew Lippa

Song title:           "Dance with somebody"
Musical:               The Bodyguard
Composer:           George Merrill and Shannon Rubican

Song title:             "I don't know how to love him"
Musical:                 Jesus Christ Superstar
Composer:            Andrew Lloyd Webber

I have chosen this song "Maybe I like it this way” from the musical  'Wild Party’, as my ultimate first song instantly as I am a fan of this song as I see myself as having a similar singing voice to the main lead female character Queenie. Queenie attacks the song with a jazzy, soulful feel to it that is the reason why I’ve always been drawn to this song. I have always been afraid of singing this song as I tent to a thought that it would be too difficult to sing.

However as time went on, I can honestly say that I’ve improved a lot as a singer and I have learnt to work of the vocal qualities that I am fantastic at, such as being able to use different timbre while singing. This is one of the qualities that would enable be to shine in my performance while singing this song. At the very start of the song it begins with…”I know it’s wrong, I know he’s rough” I could really show off the raspiness, soft side of my voice. This would enable the audience to be drawn to the rest of the lyrics.

The reason I love this song is because it allows us as a singer and an audience to go through the exact emotional journey the character goes through. At Bar:19  till Bar:26 the song gradually uplifts a little bit more as the character reminisces about what she adores about the guy she is in love with after all the feeling sorry for herself at the start of the song. I believe from this point of time I am able to bring the audience to another place helping them to imagine or even think about all the amazing things they like about someone or the partner they are with.

From Bar:45 and onwards I am able to demonstrate more the acting through song side, the feel of the song and tone is quite much so angry, dark and low as the character thinks about all the things she could do next, this can be shown by the way each sentence starts with “Maybe”. As a singer from this point on I will be able to show my wide vocal range, as my voice type is an ‘mezzo-soprano’. My I will be able to hit the high extended note which is “But look who is sitting here today”.

This song fits just right for me as I enjoy singing ballads and I also tend to choose songs that lets me use my powerful vocals to interpret the emotion, the feel to in the lyrics and mainly the climax. I could definitely act through song with the piece, I could also show the way I can comfortably use timbre within’ my voice. As a mezzo-soprano it is known that we have a wider vocal capacity this is why I’ve chosen this song as I strongly believe I could demonstrate this in my performance as I do want to stand out most importantly.

My second choice is “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” from the musical ‘The Bodyguard’ . The reason I have chosen this song is because I’ve always looked up to Whitney Houston and I would class her as my idol. This particular song allowed me to be a more confident girl on the dance floor as it gives you a feeling to just wanting to move your.

This song is a contrast to my first choice song as I would describe this so as more of a pop, upbeat musical theatre song. As an individual I am known to be a party girl and wanting to have a good time always while being out, so therefore this song wouldn’t be as hard to adapt to as the character Rachel is very similar to me in the day to day life. Rachel being a diva and having a male character looking after her at all the time is something I have.

The song starts off with “The clock strikes” this allows the audience to pay attention to what more I got to say as I will be using hand gestures the emphasise the feeling more. Bar:3 will enable me to show the warm, soulful side of my vocals. I will also be using a lot of riffs in this song as this is the other techniques I could use within’ my vocals, I would mainly be using this at most of the last words in the sentences, giving examples of “fade___” and “a-way__”.

As I will be performing in a quite enclosed pacing, this song choice will be perfect as It would enable me to more intimate with audience and being able to engage with the audience to a larger extent. Many of the audiences watching will be able to massively relate to the lyrics and be familiar to the song as it was the first single from Whitney Houston's second studio album ‘Whitney’.

The song received mixed reviews from critics, who compared the musical arrangement to her own "How Will I Know" and Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." The song won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 30th Grammy Awards. The single was a commercial success, topping the charts in 13 countries including Australia, Italy, Germany and the UK. In the US, it became her fourth consecutive number one single and sold over one million copies, making it her biggest hit in that country at the time. It was eventually surpassed by her version of "I Will Always Love You. Therefore I could say this is a very well-known song.
From Bar:12 I would be able to experiment with my voice and being able to play with my vocal techniques such as using ‘Vocal Decorations’, using ‘Twang Quality’. LINK

My third choice is "I don't know how to love him" from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar the reason I've chosen this song because I could see this song being a R'n'B song, I am so in love with that type of genre of music. I could say this song has been my first Musical song that I got given by my musical theatre teacher in first year, and I've now grown to emotionally connect with the character inside out.

This song lets me be vulnerable with my emotion, I find this extremely exciting to experience each time I sing the song and I could tell I would be feeling the same way while I sing it at the Individual showcase performance. I can be very intact with the song, I will be using a larger vocal range to hit each note especially on the main chorus "Let my feelings out___". I am extremely comfortable with being able to switch back to a more softer tone as the song follows back to "What's it all about"

I can massively relate to the song as I've found it hard to tell a guy that I loved him and this is the exact dilemma Mary Magdalene is in, she is so unsure about the way she feels towards him as she hasn't experienced this before. This lets me be able to act through song to a large extent as the song enables the audience to be drawn the lyrics as it uses emotive language.

I would describe this song as a classical, modern ballad. You wouldn't be able to tell that this particular song is sang about the son of the Lord. The chorus allows me to point the strong sides of my vocals, being able to use a very dominant, powerful voice as it says "Should I bring him down..."

'MAYBE I LIKE IT THIS WAY'

Unit 42: WHAT DO YOU EAT? ASSIGNMENT 3

WHAT DO YOU EAT?

How to keep a balanced diet...

These food groups make up a balanced diet because we as humans we all need a healthy diet as this would provide us with the right amount of energy as the calories or kilojoules, from foods and drinks help to maintain energy balance.

An energy balance is made in which where the calories taken in from the diet are equal to the calories used by the body. We definitely need energy to carry out everyday, daily tasks such as walking and moving about but also for all the functions of the body we may not even think about. Processes like breathing, pumping blood around the body and thinking also require energy.

As a dancer having a balanced diet is very essential as 'carbohydrates' gives out 60% of energy which also helps provide quick energy and as a performer to gain this we would require to eat pasta, cereals and potatoes.

As an injured performer that I was before I had to focus my diet mainly upon 'proteins' such as eating fish, legumes
, eggs and drinking milk. As this was the only way for me to gain a rather rapid recovery. I got told by my physiotherapy that eating proteins helps a speedy recovery after doing exercises;

CARBOHYDRATES

•This food type helps provide quick energy, 60% of our diet should comprise of ‘carbs’

•To get Carbohydrates it comes from Pasta, cereals and potatoes.

PROTEIN

Fibre allows you to have an healthy digestion, no constipation.

It also helps with weight control.

You can collect fibre from wholegrain cereals.

VITAMINS

As a performer, vitamins helps keep you calm and as well as helps you make decisions quickly.

You can get vitamins from fruits and vegetables.

FATS
NB Unsaturated fats are healthy, however too much of the saturated fat from animal products can lead to heart disease.

This provides slow energy, with 25% of hour diet should be fat.

You’d get fats from oils, dairy products, nuts and fish.

Whenever you sweat. It prevents dehydration.
